A small note about condensers in a point type ignition system. When the points open and the magnetic field colapses in the coil, the back EMF the condenser see is in the order of 200 volts. The condenser must be designed to with stand this voltage so the voltage of the battery system has no bearing.

I forgot to mention in my previous post that I would have to change the 6 volt condenser about every year. I finally put in a 12 volt system condenser and no more problems. Guys will say thats BS but it worked out for me. I know you didn't ask but I installed a solid state ignition system and have never looked back; well worth the money.

There is no such thing as a 6 volt or 12 volt condenser they don't care about voltage. A condenser is a condenser as far as the distubutor systems on tractors, trucks and cars

Go to this site. It has all you ever wanted to know on the subject plus part numbers. Use the NAPA coil with the internal resistor; simpler and two less connections to fail.

Not very hard to do you just wire up an alternator, switch out the lights if it has them and go. The starter etc will work just fine on 12 volts. You will also need to either put a ballast resister in the system for the coil or get a 12 volt coil
