My mower keeps losing the height setting. I like to rebuild the hyd pump on my CA, but haven,t ever touched one before. I was wondering how involved the rebuild of the pump and there any manual that details the pump and the rebuilding of it. Thanks in advance for your help. It is most appreciated.

Another cheep option is to set up a coupel chains so the whait is on the chains insted of the hydrolic system then you can just put the lever down and it cuts the same every time

Denny probly hit the nail on the head. The problem will most likely be found in the valve body. I would guess that a disassembly and cleaning will do the trick. You would want to check for a broken spring. Unless the oil was real dirty with grinding dust it would hard to wear them out. A build up of crud can keep the spool from shifting quite far enough to seal the oil from seeping by the edge of the spool. If you disassemble the pump make sure that you have a drawing to follow in putting it back together. The last one I rebuilt was put back together with one of the three spools in backwards. The fellow I bought the tractor from said that it would need a new pump as it had never worked as long as he had the tractor.

The pump is not what causes your mower to drop. It is the spool valve that is in the pump housing. I don't know if you can get new spools and I'm not sure new spools would eliminate the problem if the bore of the valve is worn. When I got my CA years ago, the system didn't work. Upon disassembly, I discovered that one spool was missing. So I made a steel spool to replace the spool. Worked fine after that but it did drop very slowly but it was useable. If the spools were available and not too expensive, I think it's worth a try to replace them.
