D17 starter problems

Fellas, I was wonderin if anyone has any ideas on this problem? When recently goin to fire up my 58' D17 the starter will turn real slow then speed up to normal and then tractor starts. I checked all connections, the solenoid, the batt. and starter The batt seems to be OK ive not done a volt check on it yet or nothin but was wonderin if anyone had this problem before or not, I removed the starter and it appears to be fine from a visual,but havent removed brushes yet. Any suggestions would be great.By the way this is a twelve volt neg. ground. Thanks alot, Hoss

I agree with Tramway Guy. It sounds like a connection or cable problem. If there is a connection problem, sometimes the bad spot has to heat up before it conducts well. Before you rebuild the starter for up to $140, replace the cables with 1 AWG or bigger cables.

Check all the connections between the battery and starter, and the battery to ground first...before you tear into the starter.
