I bought a 1967 D17 series 3 tractor off a guy at work cheep. I do not know much about A/C tractors. I use a 1947 C with a woods belly mower for years so I figured the D17 would be a good tractor also. The D17 runs good. It has a front loader. The guy told me it nees a new manifold which is no problem. He said to change the waterpump also. It is not leaking but you can wiggle the fan. Bad pulley? It has the wrong fenders the original fenders are rusted out. The 3 point lift doesn't work because it has a front end loader. I was told to tee off one of its lines to fix that problem. Other than that the tractor is all there runs good and doesn't smoke. What should I do about the water pump and the fan I can move with my hand? Are the pulleys out there? I hav seen waterpumps forsale if this one has a bad shaft but not the pulleys.

I got my D17 series 3 Sunday. I took some pictures of it that I will post on the photo section. I am going to change the waterpump. I also need a pulley. I found waterpumps forsale but no pulleys. Does anyone know where to buy one. Michael Hale

Regarding the loader- is it a trip bucket loader with one hose plugged into the remote coupler? Lift arms will work separately if you install a HIGH pressure shutoff valve in the loader hose. Then you can raise the loader, close the shutoff, and use the lift arms. You mention 'one of its lines'- do you have two going to the loader, through another hyd valve? Then the extra valve should hold it while using the lift arms.

My self I would replace ASAP, if it does go the rest of the way it could also take out the radiaitor which would cost a lot more then just a pump. A rebuilt pump will cost between $110-150 but its worth it and may save you big problems down the road

The wiggling fan blade is more than likely to be the pump bearings that are nearing the end of their useful life.
Watch for seapage at the bottom of the pump.
Seals may last a long time, or may go out next week.

If it were mine, I'd buy a rebuilt pump and send the core back in. There's some venders on this site as well as the "other" site.
Replacing water pump bearings is not a job you'd want to do.
