I am getting ready to paint my 1942 Allis Chalmers C. Im looking for good paint that is close to the orignal color. What kind of paint have you used. Any Ideas?

Hi Dustin,

For a good quality automotive paint, I recommend PPG code number 60080. I used that on my '42B. I believe it's as close as you can come to the original AC early persian orange with a modern automotive paint. DuPont also has a code YS074 which is the closest I've seen in DuPont to that same shade.

I use a single stage acrylic urethane but an acrylic enamel with hardener would also be a decent choice. With either of those, a fresh air respirator should be used for health safety. With only a cartridge respirator, an acrylic enamel used w/o hardener would be an appropriate selection. The acrylic urethane will provide the best fade and chemical resistance.
