Is it possible/difficult to convert the one way hydraulics on a WD to two way?

I have my WD all apart, so now is the time to do it, just don't know where to start.

Flinny, a double acting cylinder can be converted to a single action simply with very little expense. Remove the hose from the side of the cylinder that is not required and install a breather. You can purchase these at farm implement stores, or you can obtain a pipe plug; drill a small hole in it and install it where you removed the hose. As stated before - it will work, but it will be slow. The smaller diameter cylinder will provide the quickest response. Tom

My 53 WD has 2 hose system, a output and input line. Its almost a necessity today, as many implements have the 2 way system. Works good for implements, but for the wood splitter, its not so good as it runs it slow.

Flinny, Yes it is possible. You don't really convert, but add on. You need to purchase a double acting valve, two remote quick disconnects and some hose. You plumb from the pump to the valve, and return from the valve to the reservoir. Mount the valve where it is handy for you. When you want the hydraulics to work you raise the lever on the quadrant to lift and leave it there; this will operate the pump. This will work - but it will work slow because the system is high pressure-low volume. The industry standard is low pressure and high volume. We have a 10 gpm pump mounted on the crankshaft of our WD45 to power the loader. Depends on your application as to what you need to do on your tractor. Tom

Thanks for the feedback, Tom.

I have a number of imlements that are relatively new & almost every hydraulic cylindar these days is two way (two hoses, one to push each way). Mostly, my need is just for lifting an implement (such as a disc or a dump box).

Since my needs are for lifting, two way is really not needed, since the implement once lifted, gravity will push the oil out of the cylindar. Maby I should ask a different question:

Is there a simple way to convert a two way cylidar to a one way?

I've tried just hooking up one of the hoses to the WD, but that doesn't work (i didn't think it would, but tried anyway).

Seems to me that this might be one of those problems that has a simple answer, if I just had a bit of knowledge.

all you need is the 2-way valve and some hoses.
I converted my wd45 over for a loader and took some pictures and posted on my website
