Oil in Water on my CA

I bought a CA last fall from a fella that didn't know a whole lot about tractors. He ran it hot. I mean real hot!! Two freeze plugs in the head were gone so I replaced them and filled the radiator again. No water in the oil this time but the radiator still gets oil in it. Motor starts and runs pretty good but does smoke blue. Seems like one cylinder may have blow-by. Where do you think the oil in the radiator is coming from and how do I figure it out? Thanks for any help.

Thanks, Old for the suggestions. As soon as it warms up a little I will give it a try. I kind of figured to replace the head gasket and go from there but wanted some advise from others first. The guy was carring 2 5-gallon water cans with him to mow his 5 acre field and would fill them out of the pond at least twice.

When he filled it was it running of shut off?? If it wasn't running theres a very good chance that it has a cracked block or a cracked head. Learned about that happening 40 plus years ago when my brother poured cold water into a hot engine on a 1954 GMC saburn and destroy the engine in it

Well if it was run hot it could be as simple as a head gasket or as bad as a cracked head. Or it could also be that you still have oil in the cooling system just from it being run hot and popping the plugs out. I would flush the cooling system with vinagar and then see how it looks after that. I would also pour about a 1/4 cup of tranny fluid in each cylinder to help pop the rings loose because running hot can cause the rings to stick which would cause it to smoke
