I was really referring to the fuel pump not 436IH vs 426AC because the Bosch on those two engines were similiar but not exactly the same.

You know 856, AC did offer a booster fuel pump but I think it was for the 7000 series 426 and for the life of me I can't remember why I know when I went to manage the farm we eventually had to put it on the 7060 we had because of starting problems. You know it just dawned on me that he may not have the throttle in the right position because you know the 1586IH's that we had required the throttle to be wide open to start and I don't recall the start procedure for the 8000 tractors. The reason I know about the 1586 is our best operator on the farm watched me just about grind the battery down to nothing and said let me show you how to start this tractor and even with a low battery he threw the throttle all the way forward and even though it turned over slow it fired right off, he said that's what it says to do in the operators manual. I immediately went to my truck and sulked (just kidding) ego thing. I think the 1586 had pretty much the same fuel pump basically.CT

well comparing the ih to an ac for engine quality and especially starting is not compairing apples to apples that dt 414 or 466 is a supper engine. i dont rember what the opperator manual says for starting but i doo rember opening the throttel at least 3/4 to start. i know there is a extra fuel mechanism in the pump though

most 8000s i have worked on did not have a booster pump only the one on the inj pump maybe it was an option? but they are touchy about air leaks, cracked fuel hoses, o rings loose clamps ect. a couple times i have had to resort to puting a small external fuel tank on the hood to elimniate all chance of air before condeming the pump with thoes hours that stuff can happen. also check the balencer often i have seen many fail maybe it turned a little and you are getting the wrong timing there should be 2 dots one on the inside part of balencer and one on the outside make sure they are lined up perfectly

Oh! one more thing forgive me but I thing AC was the only tractor with the Bosch pump that had a fuel tank lower than the pump and required a booster fuel pump before the fuel pump. Help me out here guys a memory is great when it works.CT

Richard, I'm trying to remember some things but I do recall when AC brought out the 8000 series tractor we applauded at the dealers meeting when they announced going to the Bosch pump because we knew it would mean easier starting and better fuel and smoke control the only thing we found was a problem with idle surging which was corrected by an update early on. You mentioned it was hard to start before and I'm guessing someone has gotten to a few screws before trying to turn up the pump to get more horsepower and got a hold of the wrong screws. My suggestion would be take the pump to an authorized Bosch repair shop and get it tested. PS do me a favor and take the nozzles with you and get everything checked out I'm betting you'll be pleased with the results.CT

If you went from an 8000 series fuel system to a 7000 series system, you need some timing gears around. The 7000 system (roosa master) has to spin 1/2 of a revolution per every engine revolution, while the bosch pump has to spin 1 time per 1 engine revolution. This also requires a new adaptor plate on the engine and timing cover if I remember correctly.

the 7060 had a rosamaster and you dont want that! when you check timing make sure you turn the engine in direction of rotation. we left the timing on the 8000 stock. does it smoke when cranking? some 8000s had the fuel return break or fall off in side the tank that would sifen the fuel out of the pump. they will fire than run out of fuel. i have had some o rings go bad on filter heads and cause trouble. cranking speed is verry important. were the valves set properly when it was apart?

Did it start hard before the rebuild? How cold has it been? I am pretty sure that you would not (could not?) want to go backwards to the 7000 series fuel system.
