If you go to the unofical Allis site under photo archives you will find a picture of a WC Maintainer. I tried to post it here but it is a no go.

Sid thank you for your kind efforts. Did Chuck Wendels book The Story Of Allis have pictures as well? I know I seen it somewhere years ago. I loaned my copy out a couple of years ago so I can not look.

A half dozen years ago I was in Hutchison Mn at the AC show. I had a original owners manual in my hand, for a W speed Patrol but put it back after asking the price. Later on in the day I counted my allowance and decided I better get it. I know to this day the guy probably thinks I stole it as he said it was gone and he had not sold it. That was the only actual manual I ever seen, and blew my chances.

I did see a AC B if I'm not mistaken (I have photos somewhere) with a factory blade under it just a scaled down version of the W. It sure was a nice show item, but out of my nickle and dime budget.

There is also a show around Cedar Rapids Iowa here that had a W, and he also had a costom made toy that was very detailed. I asked if it was for sale, the guy had done it himself and --well you know how those stories go.
I have two repair AC W Speed Patrol manuals, and list two different tractor works that (I asume) made them. If you ever get around a W the parts book states of a tag on the right side, I had mine a couple of years before I ever seen it, and that was after it was pointed out to me.
We use mine at times a whole lot leveling in confined areas and landscaping, and works great after you learn to listen to it instead of hot roding and tearing things up. I just could not be more satisfied with it.
I have seen a few sell in our area, but boy they bring a whole bunch. Some are almost beyond scrap. I think I only gave $230.00 for mine along time ago and drove it home.

One of the repair manuals is a original, and I have never seen so many different tape overs, and notes made in any book, apparently there were alot of modifications / SN breaks. If my eyes are seeing correct apparently they did not use the WC rear wheels either, I guess a old guy told me once they had alot of problems with the final drives, and many were swaped out from WCs. They also show the wide lug tires in the repair parts list. Anyway thanks again, this form is a great place to gain knowledge.

Wendel's book does not refer to a Speed Patrol, but does show the Speed Maintainer, built 1938-1941, production of 411 units. It is a WC tractor with a belly blade under the middle, with a frame that wraps around the front end. No front end extension. Also shows the Model W Patrol, first built at LaPorte Works 1940-1942, then resumed production at Springfield Works in 1945 to 1950. 3000 units made. This is the design that old has, with the extended front end on the WC. Standard blade was ten feet, no info about options. (Page 200). Serial number list shows "WC" Maintainer and "W" Patrol, so 'Speed Patrol' is basically a made-up name referencing both machines. but no basis in fact. Kind of hard to think speed and road blading go together.

 JSM/MN thanks in reply to JMS/MN, 02-14-2007 08:30:00
Thanks for the information, my repair book lists model "W" Speed Patrol on both of the AC repair parts list manuals I have. Unlike IH manuals and a few others they show no date of publication, one is however a reprint. There is a more detailed post a little farther down with the form numbers etc. It also has blade / moldboard / scarfire options listed from my repair manuals.
Thanks again for your troubles, it is most kind of you to help research this.
