Figuring out WD engine serial numbers

I am just getting started with rebuilding my WD. I know nothing about which block, heads, etc will work in combination. I have three different engines, one on the tractor and two others. Is there any way to figure out which engines I have? The three numbers are: WD300656PA, W194219G, and WD248875GA.

Some parts of each are not good and I don't know what I can combine. I also have another spare crank. How do I figure out which cranks I have, as I think they are different stroke?

What is commonly done during a WD rebuild? I remember something about the WD45 crank and increased horsepower?

Sorry for all of the questions, I really am new at this.

w engine came from a wc, wd engines came from a wd. all bsdically the same engine. a wd45 engine serial # will start with 45 Bob

Looks like all 3 blocks are WD blocks. Easy way to tell, do they have a plate bolted on the distributor side of the block? If so...then all are WD. All internals will interchange. If you have one with a taller head, thats better. You can guess on the crank by measuring the throw with a tape. WD was 4" stroke, WD 45 was 4.5" stroke. You can spend as much or as little as you want. Think a full overhaul kit new rod/main bearings, pistons, sleeves, rings, full gaskets is about $600 or so. Make sure you change the cam shaft bushings. The cam is the main oil galley for the crank and needs to be snug. Any other questions, e-mail me or ask here. Glad to help.

Aaron, what makes the taller head better, just stronger? And how thick is the taller head in inches?

What is a good rebuild then, a WD45 crank in an otherwise WD stock engine?

some of the late wd's had the tall head also, just like some had curved shifters. Bob

The tall head is off of the WD45. Think it flows a little bit better. I'd have to go measure mine to see just how tall it is. A good rebuild is a WD45 crank on WD45 or D 17 pistons, the tall head, and a WD45 carb and air cleaner.
