ok ive got my CA apart now how do I get the starter ring off thanks for info

I use heat all the way arount the ring gear to expand it. Won't hurt the ring gear as installation calls for heating to 400 deg. If the ring gear is bad , who cares.

1. remove flywheel and place on hard flat surface like a piece of plywood on a concrete floor.
2. lube ring gear and flywheel edge with penetrating lubricant.
3. Using a brass drift punch of suitable size and big hammer, start tapping the ring gear off. You need to hit, see if its moving, change locations, and keep working around the circle. I would caution against doing this in really cold weather, at least warm the flywheel to room temp-DO NOT HEAT. Reason to do it at room temp is that I've heard of real cold ring gears snapping into pieces.
