d15 vs case 430

Hello, I looked at a pretty clean looking D 15 and was wanting to get some advice. How would this tractor compare to a case 430? D15 is gas, wf, with loader and snap coupler hitch. Case 430 is diesel, triple range, eagle hitch, wf power steering, no loader but I have loader I can put on. Would like some input as to how they would compare in field, such as raking hay or pulling a pto baler? How about in general utility use? Have used the case 430 for a while wondering if the d15 is a good upgrade.

Mike, I don't know where you're located but one thing I would consider is a loader tractor being gas powered for a couple reasons one is winter starting without plugging it in for one and if you've ever had to run a diesel in a barn digging out manure I can assure you the air in there gets so bad even the birds and cows come out coughing I mean it will burn out your eyeballs. Also the the 430 is about 1000# lighter than the D-15 which is suprising to me I thought the 15 was about one of the lightest tractors made but it's govenor is real snappy so could be a real good baler tractor. Tip, watch rear tire size and if they're loaded. CT

The D- 15, if it is the series 2 will have oval muffler. The D-15 2 that I have has pulled NH 315 square baler with no probs except when pulling a fully loaded bale wagon uphill. It would pull a 4x4 round baler well, but most of these balers require 2way hyd, and some d-15's don't come standard with that option.

Both are pretty good tractors. But for a baler you must be talking about a not very big square baler. Neither of those tractors have enough PTO horsepower to run a round baler. I would say to run a 5x6 round baler you would prooly need at least 70 PTO horsepower. I do tend to lean more to the Allis because it has a little more hp and it has a hand clutch, which is always nice. Having a three point hitch would be handy but if its just a loader tractor you dont really need one. But if you decide to need one you can buy one to put on it. I don't have any experience with the case tractor you are thinking about, but I used to have a D-15 series II. The D-15 makes an excellent loader/utility tractor. Big enough, but not to big. The Series II had more hp as it had a 160 CI engine vs the 149 CI in the series I. Mine was about 40-45 hp. If the one you are looking at does not have power steering, I would look at something else if you want to use a loader. You can add it, but thats $. One great thing about the D-15 is the power director hand clutch. You can slip it as much as you want because it is an oil bath clutch, so you can just barely creep along or stop completely with the PTO still turning. That's great for field work (e.g. baler) and loader work. I pulled a 3-14 plow with mine with no problem. They are great tractors and you can convert the snap coupler to 3 point.

Case 431:34.3 pto hp, 31.3 dbhp. wt.3839#

D15 series 2: 46ptohp, 39.6 dbhp. wt.4025#

Never run either tractor.

I"ve owned both tractors in gas engines. Both are good trouble free and parts are still available. I personally prefer the AC because it seems to have a little more power. I've raked hay with both but never ran a baler.
