I wanted to rebuild my hydraulic cylinders on my wd do to they are leaking. I unscrewed the nut on the ram end, removed the 2 washers under that, and found a fiberous washer, it won't come out. Am I tearing down this thing at the right end? Does this fibourous washer have to be chipped out to reveal a snap ring or something? or do you have to do something else? any help anyone?

Well I got it apart. Heated the heck out of the end cap, and it unthreaded. I must admit I was surprised when it came apart. I was expecting a pistion with an o-ring on it or two. Nope, nothing inside, except a snap ring on the end of the ram. Looks like they used the ram as a piston, sealed on the outside of the cyl. where the ram comes out. The seal pack was under the fibrous washer. Pretty darn primitive if you ask me, but I guess it's all they had back in them days. My ram is a little pitted, so gonna have to reasess the situation. Maybe just put on a set of new cylinders with similar specs.

Some cylinders can be a bear to open up. I use compressed air to pop a good many open. Just be careful if you do that since the ram can go flying across a room. I've never open up one from a WD but you should be doing it right as far as what end you opened up
