I just bought what I thought was a, "C", but when I got it home and uncovered the serial number, found it was 124688 it didn't make sense. The only tractors that go up this high are the, "B"'s. It has a, "C" sticker on the side, and the manual that came with it is for a, "C". But those are all cosmetic. It also doesn't have a magneto - but I suppose someone could have upgraded it. There's a bunch of photos if you follow the link. Is there any sure way to tell a "C" from a "B" besides the serial #?

Thanx, tom

You guys got it right on! I scraped away to the left of the serial number, and sure'nuff, there was a barely legible "B".

I already have the engine apart (it was froze when I got it), and am having fun trying to get the #3 piston out (it _really_ doesn't want to go)!

Thanks again.

tom

A quick way to tell the difference between a C and a B other than the serial number is the pitman arm off the steering box on a C will be in the 12 o'clock position and on a B it will be at the 6 o'clock position.

scrape a little nore to the left of the 1 and i think you will find a "B". it looks like a b with the adjustable front and rear. the adjustable rear makes people think it is a c, as the wheels are the same. i think the b is 28" between the final drives, the c is much wider. Bob

tcumming, Looks to me like you have a Allis Chamlers B,year is 1954. The wide front is called an adjustable wide front and was an option on all C, B, And also the CA. The seat is the same as the CA. To tell you the truth I've never seen one that late so the seat may have been an option by that late in production. They sure was a lot more comfortable. If the tractor is a three (3) speed it would be correct, but if its a four speed that was on a CA. Hope this helps. Don

Those are C rear wheel centers on it. My guess is that it got a new transmission som time in its life and was restamped. That could be a C preceding the numbers. Take a bit of sandpaper to it and see if it cleans up. Interesting tractor. Aftermarket spring seat will be nice to have. I like the hydraulic quick coupling idea too.

Link didn't work. On either one of them the serial number should start with a B or a C which tells you the model that it is. A C should also have a trike type front end on it but a B front end will bolt right on. The C is wider in the back then a B is, but both use the same engine. For that matter most parts will work on either one of them. Also a B should have a wide front end on it
