CA 12 Volt Conversion..... How??

Okay, so what are the parts and steps that I need to take to convert my CA to 12 volt. The motor has been rebuilt and the 6 volt system is just not strong enough.

We offer a 12V conversion for the B,C,CA machines. Drop us a line if interested, be happy to help you out. BDT in MN made a good point. Most 6V systems work fine providing the battery cables and their connections are clean, tight, and heavy enough to do the job. Most 6V cables should be 1 gauge or larger. Also as BDT mentioned, a starter motor that needs serious attention could be a problem in itself especially trying to start a "fresh" engine. Start with a good battery, a freshly rebuilt starter and new cables and your problems could possibly be eliminated....

If your in a pinch you can just go with the 12volt battery and the 12 coil with internal resistor, use the generator as a belt tension (so to speak)until you can replace with an alternator.

You need an altenator like a delco 10si, a 12 volt battery and the wires. Its not all that hard to do, and if you do it right you can use the genny mounts most of the time. I do all my own wiring when I do them.

Don't forget a 12v internal resistor coil to the list,,and 12 volt lites.. the ammeter can remain, but the alt may bury the needle/?/if desired, that can easily be replaced with a higher scaled one..will work either way.I'm with Old, I make my own harnesses for conversions..

One other thing....If you have a good 6Volt battery and good cables, and the starter isn't cranking the way it should,it should be reconditioned, reguardless..whether you convert to 12V or not..One other thing,, does the engine crank over excessively hard with the hand crank??you mentioned a fresh rebuild.?? Could have an overly tight engine that contributes to the problem.. Did the starter do a good job of cranking before the engine rebuild????? ????
