I have a bad starter for a wd45, how do I take it off to have it rebuilt? Thank you.

Piece of cake. I did this a month ago. As you're looking at the starter from the driver's seat, there's a bolt that goes through the housing on the left side into the starter that pins it into place. It's a beveled bolt, once you take that out, the starter's free to pull out.
When you go to reinstall, though, be careful to get that bolt in the proper amount. It may not be properly mounted (mine wasn't). If it's in too far, the end of the bolt will grind against the flywheel cogs, if it's not in far enough, it won't pin the starter in position correctly. Adjust as necessary.
While you're at it, check the cogs on that engaging gear, if they're worn on the front side, you can get a replacement gear on this website. I replaced mine a couple of months ago. It takes some skill and hard work, but so far I've been very pleased with the replacement part.

????? ????? The bolt that holds the starter pushes against the starter housing, several inches away from the flywheel.

By the way, in order to get my starter to pin down in there snug with the beveled bolt, I had to take the bolt to the grinder and shave off about a quarter of an inch off the tip so it wouldn't grind the flywheel. Check that tip out before you reinstall, and don't be afraid to do that if you need to. It won't hurt a thing, as long as you don't leave burrs and you get it even.

Thank you, That worked to get it off, I just wanted to make sure it was that bolt before I fought to break it loose.

I thought you had to remove the battery box to get clearance to get the starter out.
