my lift cylinder wont pick the belly mower up. the past owner said they never used the hydraulic. The tranny oil is full and appears thick, its in the 20"s here in pa, any help is appreciated. does the tranny share its oil with the hydaulic??

got a 5 foot woods on my b which has the same lift. mine picks it up like a champ. you have a problem somewhere.

Yeah, I made the mistake of putting 90W in the rear of mine when I first got it...The hydraulics would raised even when I didn't want them to...I had to drain, flushed with Kero, and refilled with 20W...works like a charm now...

thanks for the input, I will get it all drained out and see what it all looks like, it didnt seem to smell like gear lube, but was thick, the past owner just didnt seem to know much on it, the lift setup is what it should be from what I have seen. all factory woods set up, any chance that cylinder is bad??

JD Hauler, if you are using a single cylinder, it may not have enough snort to do the job. If the cylinder moves a lever to do the lift, you could look at making the lever longer. It won't lift as high but might be adequate. I changed the lever arm on my C to pick up the front of a 5' shredder (no 3rd point). The compromise worked fine for me with a single cylinder.

does it smell like gear lube (alxe oil) or like regular oil. i agree with old, drain the stuff out, refill with universal hydraulic-trans fluid. you can get a 2.5 gallon jug at Wal Mart or farm store.

Tranny,rear end and hyds are all the same oil/fill. Takes about 8 qts. of hyd/tranny fluid to fill. With it being that cold you may have a problem with water in the fluid and its froze and if it is the hyds will not work well if at all. Theres 3 drain plugs and only one fill plug. Also the PTO has to be in gear and the clutch out for them to work
