A/C D-14 will not run long (sometimes)
replaced plugs, points, cond, plug wires, 12v batt. coil, dist. cap and rotor button
replaced carb with zenith carb. cleaned lines and tank. Have had the problem for over 2 years. ready to junk. someone here suggested ..lossen gas cap. holes might be pluged up...did that, no change. I really think there is a problem with fuel. is the zenith carbs any good? is there any changes that need to be made to carb.

Is this tractor a late model with 12 volt, or was it changed over from 6 volt? Some 6 to 12 volt changes will cause trouble if not done right.

If the fuel end is good, you may have an intermittant problem with the ignition switch or the little piece of square bakelite plastic that insulates the wire going into the distributor. To test this try gently twisting this wire while tractor is running. Also the wire itself may be too small or degraded.

Run it until it dies, then quickly disconnect the gas line from the carb. Got a good flow of gas? Then that`s not a problem. Grab a plug wire and hit the starter. Got a strong spark? That should narrow your problem down to fire or fuel. Got both? Check the air supply. You are losing one of these 3 things if it runs for a while and then dies. Once you find out which you can look at every part in that system until you find the one that is causing the problem.

I had a Oliver 770 that I bought in late October. I didn't do anything with it until Late December when it developped the same symptom you have. Turned out it was water in the oil bath air filter. When the weather was cold the water would freeze and choke off the air. When it warmed up the ice would melt and it would run fine. When I took the cup down I could not see the the ice because the oil that was left in the cup was on top. Sometimes the simple things are the hardest to find. Good luck, Dave
