I have a 170 diesel and the 3 point lift is acting up. We have had about 5 inches of rain and now the temp is in the 20's. I went to lower the 3 point and it started down and just before it bottomed out it came back up on its own. now it will not go down. It will detent in the up position but still will not budge in the down position. Moisture??

This tractor sits outside all the time and i just wonder with all the rain and freezing rain we have had if it has ice somewhere.

Banjo, Check the pivot shafts for the linkages to the control valves near the lift arm and underneath the flat plate where the valves mount.
Also, make sure the TB valve is not stuck in the rearward position as it is a spring return type.
Others have had related problems on D17SerIV which uses the same setup.

I could not see anything wrong as far as linkage. I could see some wet/oil residue in the dust cover on the valve under the flat cover. It will release with the tractor not running and let the 3 point down. I did not start the tractor today too cold for me outside.
