Well, I finally got the Ross steering gear I was working on finished, and might I add that it's very nice to be able to turn both directions. My new problem are the final drives. I checked the fluid level in them, and one had about a quart of water in it, plus who knows what kind of fluid. That said, I'd like to change the fluid in both. Problem is my I&T manual says .75 quarts, but doesn't say of what. Is it 80W-90 gear oil or something else? Also, anyone know where I could come up with new gaskets? Alternately, I have gasket material available, but what thinkness should I be using? As always, thanks!!

Definitely use 80W90! The bull gear dips thru that pan and slings it all over the final drive gears to lubricate them. 20 weight will just come right off. Definitely 80W90

the water and goo is normal for 50 years old. drain and wash good. make sure the pan face is flat. put a 1/8 bead of RTV on and tighten up flat. i make my own gasket with RTV on both sides to help seal- paper type gasket is o.k. add almost a quart of80-90 wt gear lube of your choice. too thick is not good, need to get lube to the top bearings. the 20 wt book is a misprint.

My reprinted A-C manual says "S.A.E. 20W at all times" which to me seams thin, but thats what the manual says so thats what I use, even though I've always wondered about it.

I changed the oil in my Cs finals this summer. Calls for 80 or 90W gear oil. I used 80W-140 in my C. As far as gaskets I use silicone the AGCO dealer said he could get them but also said they use the silicone instead of the gaskets.

I used 80/90 Wt in my finals and have never had any problems.

I change them at the begining of each mowing season and depending on how much I run it I change it more often.

My finals were noisy when I first started using this tractor and when I changed them it looked like a milk shake but after cleaning them out I have never had any water in them since.

Now this tractor never sets outside in the rain.
