How do you put a straight pipe on a WD? Also, my WD is a 1950 does anyone know what color the decals should be? (Blue or Black)
Thanks

I always have a straight pipe on my WD... It looks good, and sounds great. I"ve had no problems with them in all the years I"ve driven them.

I do not allow a straight pipe on any piece of equipment that I value....Not are they only an annoyance for me and my neighbors, but I don't like to see an engine cool off so fast..The muffler helps hold some heat in the engine, and lessens the chance of warping an exhaust valve..

Sorry but study have found tha t stright/open pipe don't cause warped valve. Now if its an open manifold yes maybe but NEVER a stright pipe. Waht warps a valve if it cold air can hit them but with a stright pipe that canont happen and will not happen or there would be a lot of the over the road trucks with that problem which there isn't

If the pipe is long enough; but I have seen tractors with extremely short stub pipes on them that barely cleared the hood..The purpose was usually for clearing the barn door when cleaning the barn..These straight pipes were next to nothing at all...When it gets to be thirty below around here, those pipes can be bad news, valves have cooled off too quick. Not everyone has had the mis-pleasure of working in subzero cold, but it can give you a different outlook on what is proper and what is not... other than that, the stubs can be be a good way to burn down a barn. A muffler serves as a spark arrestor to a point, also,as well as a place for condensation to gather,,now, did I mention anything about mice getting into the exhaust manifold??Yep, it has happened. It boils down to who owns the tractor and what it is used for. But I still prefer a muffler with a rain cap on top.

My personal preference is to have the tractor as quiet as possible. One of the things I most dislike about modern tractor shows is the number of loud tractors, equipped with straight pipes, that I hear. Just because it's loud doesn't mean it sounds good. Tim

i have a straight pipe on my wd that looks like a muffler, plus i cut/bent the top 3"s of the outlet forward. does not sound any louder than a muffler from the drivers seat.

I have the short exhaust stub on my WC. Surprising how quite it is when running, but when the gov kicks in, its time to pull your cap down over your ears.
Good Luck.....

I have a 3" pipe on my WD-45, I took a piece of pipe that fit in the manifold, and welded two large washers onto it about 6" apart. I ground them to fit into the 3" pipe and welded it at the bottom. It sounds neat and looks nice for pulls and shows, but for work the muffler goes back on.

INCH AND A QUARTER GALVANIZED PIPE SHOULD SLIP RIGHT INTO THE MANIFOLD. DECAL SHOULD BE BLACK. WHY AM I SHOUTING? AFTER A LONG DAY ON THE TRACTOR, WE HAVE TO, SO YOU CAN HEAR US.

Putting a stright pipe on is easy and can be done in a number of ways. One is to cut off the pipe just under the muffler and then slide a pipe over what you have left. Or you can make/buy a stright pipe and slip it in. But doing so will not help you for the most part, you might gain all of a 1/10 of a HP by doing it. You will on the other hand loose about half or your hearing from doing it, not only as in hearin things around you but in the long term by hurting your ears and there no fix for them other then hear aids.

On my C Allis I tapped the manifold and put a pipe in the manifold so I could put the stock muffler or a straight pipe on it without much hastle.

I know that my C with a staright pipe sounds good but after a while of mowing with it it gets too loud on the ears.
