Hey JMS, I think your on the wrong topic this one is looking for an engine replacement for an E Gleaner. I was just saying the WD45 had the same 226ci block as a D-17 but internally there may be some differences anyway with a combine we're looking at flywheel horsepower not transferring power to the ground. Maybe you made a misprint the D-14 had I think a 149ci engine with about 30hp at the pto the later D-15 had a 160ci engine power wise was equal to the WD-45 at the pto regardless of tire sizes.

Thanks JMS, I couldn't remeber which D series tractor it was and it appears the WD45 basic engine would work as far as the B&S but you engine guys would know that better because the compression ratio is different and the D-17 had 200 RPM more but I don't know what the governed engine speed is on an E.

I remember when the D14 came out in '57. Had about the same HP as the WD45, but had 26 inch rear tires (I thought that was stupid!)- AC always went with the smaller diameter rear tires while real farmers knew that you need some diameter to pull the load! D14 was about 400 lbs lighter than the WD45, same hp, doesn't take a rocket surgeon to figure out you need weight to pull the load- D14 was no replacement for the WD45!

I'm thinking the E had an engine from somthing like a D15 series tractor not sure maybe a serial number would help as to what year. I don't think the GMC engine came until the K2 or F2 era. The E's were made from 1962 thru 1968.

Gleaner E had the same engine as a D17 gas.

So what engine does an E have? Is it a Chevy 292?
I know a fellow that has 6 engines, 292 Chevies...
