Trying to identify engine in a 1939 WC. Where and what should we look for. Thanks Mike

Additionally, the WD engine #s start with "WD" and the WD-45 engine#s start with "45"

The engine number should be stamped on a machined pad on the side of block near air cleaner or on back of block just above clutch housing. It should start with "W". If the number ends with "G" the engine is a high compression for gas only. If it ends with "K" it is a dual fuel low compression for gas or tractor fuel. Armed with the engine number you should be able to find out if it is a WC or WD engine. If it is a WD45 engine there will be no inspection plate on the side of the block that the magneto is on. The WC, WD and WD45 engines would pretty much interchange and sometimes that was done to get an increase in power.
