Well i sprayed the cap (upper and lower) with starting fluid. didn't see any cracks. also sprayed inside of mag points and plate and stuff. looked good and clean. i fired her up and she sounded a little better but still running on # 4 only. i pulled all the plug wires one at a time , while it was running and nothing until # 4 and that spark could lite a camp fire. i'd hate to grab that. still no parts,Xmas time, mails slow.

Have you checked to see if the other wires are carrying a spark??If not, then take off the #1 wire and put it in the #4 hole and check for spark. Also check for the contact points inside the outer part of the dist cap. I would start by checking the other wires and see if they carry current.
Good Luck..... ...

Are you saying you don't have spark on any of them other then #4?? If thats true then it has to be either the cap or rotor of bad bushings in the mag and the points are only working when it gets to #4
