front hyd pump for d17

In a recent post, I read that you could mount a hydraulic pump on the front of a d17 and operate it directly off the engine and therefore have independent hydraulics.

My questions are, where would you find such a pump and the necessary shafts, etc. for installation? Also, about how much HP does one of these eat up and can the tractor be operated without the pump also operating?

Start by checking with your AGCO dealer. Locater is at www.agcocorp.com. Salvage yard might be another option. When I put independent hydraulics on my WD reversed loader I bought an AC pump, probably the same model that is on the F, F2 combine. You can also buy corresponding mounting plates for the pump and bolt that to the tractor. Alignment is critical. Run a connecting shaft through to the crankshaft pulley where you machine and drill a plate to bolt to the pulley.

First of all I can't answer all of your quetions. But number one is live is what it means as long as the engine turns you will have hydraulics and if it's closed center will pull horsepower because it is running off of the crankshaft and keeping the pump at pressure to the pressure setting unless it is an on demand system of which I don't know if you can get that on an aftermarket system. I'm assuming you do know that if you use the hand clutch the pump still runs but if you want to change gears that means you will have to push in the foot clutch which of course stops the pump.It just depends on what you want to do with your tactor.
