Clear coat base coat paint

I am in the process of a complete tear down and restoration of our 41C #552 and was thinking about using clear coat base coat paint.

I know its not the original paint but I was just wondering how it would hold up around the manifold on the engine.

I painted it once before with a single stage paint and after alot of wet sanding and buffing I had the sheet metal looking quite well.

I didnt take much time making the sheetmetal straight at that time beause it was used alot but now it just sits in the shop alone and needs some attention.

Nothing wrong with using a bc/cc paint system., although you won't find that it will hold up any better on the manifold than a single stage paint. I haven't used a specific base/clear on a tractor but have used a clear over single stage color to enhance the appearance of cut vinyl decals. Be aware that most automotive clearcoats use an isocyanate-containing hardener that should only be used if you have a fresh air respirator - for your own respiratory good health.

You shouldn't have a problem with any paint on the head itself - either single stage or base/clear.
