LEAKING SLEEVE RUBBER O RING SEAL

I just pulled the pan on my WD to check the source of a slight coolant leak into the oil. On the back side of #2 sleeve is hanging a drop of antifreeze. With no pressure on the cooling system I doubt that there is but 1/4 teaspoon in a week. What do you think..... ..... . try stop leak or pull the sleeve and replace the packing ring(s) on the sleeve. Are these available seperately? John

The leak could also be cauces by a crack in the block.

I had leaky rings on a WD a few years ago. When I pulled it down and removed the sleeves, stop leak was almost 2 inches deep at the base of the block around the sleeves - and it still leaked. I didn't put it there - I suspect the previous owner. Anyway, stop leak didn't stop the leak. You can try it but watch it close. I think these solutions do more to clog up the cooling system than to stop leaks - but sometimes they do work.

The amount of water your are describing can easily be stopped with a stop leak. My experience with an AC engine was similar, but a WC. I ordered the o rings, dropped the pan and was sorry I ever did. I found 3 different pistons and contemptabile sleeves. What should have been a cheap and easy fix amounted to a difficult, expensive and time consuming repair. Stop leak would have done the job and save dme a lot of grief.

I had one like that a few years back and stop leak would only stop it for a short time. Only real fix was to put new "O" Rings in. I put up with it for about four years and then pulled the engine out.

As everyone has said the best solution to the problem would be to put new o ring seals in it. If it uses oil already it would be a good time to do a rebuild any way. Just remember to keep every sleeve and piston in the same hole if you do choose to tear it down.

My 41C was the same when my father and myself purchased it many years ago.

We tryed the fix a stuff but it didnt hold. After we tore into it it was a wonder it didnt run hot. There was so much of the stop leak stuff in the block that we had to take the block to the machine shop and have it jet washed. The jet washing cleaed it real good. My freind owns the machine shop and he has baking system that backes the crud off and then goes into a shot machine but I didnt want to go that route.

Anyway to end a long reply its been together for many years and never leaked another drop of fluid.
