just wanted to say thanks to your replies. i got to the stage of finding the manifold leaking between the gasket and head. I'm going to try taking it off and cleanig it. When i think of it,i have had trouble ever since i took the orginal manifold off and replaced with another used/new one. It leaks pretty bad at the corner closest to the gas tank. is the exhaust gasket reuseable or should it be replaced no matter what? thanx gary

took the manifold off. the port closest to the gas tank leaked and left port over the carb was really wet. straight edged the manifold and couldn't see any daylght. cleaned it real good,head too. going to pick up a new gasket and see what happens. will let ya know if that's it. thanx gary

I'd check the manifold surfaces with a straightedge- might need to get it planed, because gaskets can handle only a bit of rough or uneven surface. Same with the mating surface on the head.
