what's best way to convert, specifically add on to an AC hydrolic system (WD or d17) to run a 2 way cylinder. I know I can put a PTO or belt drive pump on but would like to adapt present system with splitter or valve somehow.

If all you want to run is one two-way cylinder, it is no big deal. Each tractor has the option of a remote cylinder (one-way)- but you can run a two-way if you add a valve to control it, plus a line back to the sump. Both tractors are set up to have a single remote- just plug in a valve to that remote, and run the return line back into the sump. If you want to add independent hydraulics, that can be done as well, usually with a front mount pump. Forget the pto or belt pulley driven pump. Much simpler and better idea to drive the extra pmp from the front of the engine- either tractor.

Lotsa D17s had a provision for a front mount pump that bolted to the steering casting, powered by a shaft bolted to the crankshaft pulley. Check the pulley for a machined face with tapped holes. WD you need to weld a stub shaft to the pulley, machine it true, and use Lovejoy or sprockets with double wide chain to connect to the pump. Alignment is critical. Either gives you independent hydraulics- you need to add a valve and reservoir. Factory or hyd shop parts work equally well
