Hi, the WC motor has a 4" bore and a 4" stroke, came in a number of compression ratios over the years, with cast iron or aluminum pistons and had a short or thin cyl head with 12 or 15 studs and ran at low speed. The early WD had a similar motor with a short or thin cyl head with 15 studs and aluminum pistons with higher compression ratios and ran at higher speed. The later WD motors (also 4" bore and 4" stroke) had the tall or thick cyl head and used 15 bolts. The WD 45 has a 4" bore and 4.5" stroke, a tall or thick cyl head that used 15 bolts, an improved govenor (oil line lubrication) and a heavier (stronger) block with no side pan or cover. Over the years there have been many cyl sleeve kits in oversize bore and high compression oversize bore configurations available for gas and LP applications for these motors. There is a lot of interchangability between these motors, but, not all parts will interchange, or will interchange and not perform properly. You can put an early WC carb on a late model WD 45, but, you would not want to do it; it would reduce the power too much. It is sometimes difficult to tell what parts the engine has been rebulit with unless you measure each part and check casting numbers and forging numbers. I have seen a WC motor (block) rebuilt with WD 45 parts and it ran every bit (exactly) the same as a WD 45 motor. It had the lighter WC block; how long would it run? It may still be running. I would rather have the heaver, stronger WD 45 block. If your WD 45 Block is not cracked or damaged, you might want to rebuild it. I would suggest the 4 1/8" bore (1/8" overbore) high compression cyl sleeve kit for the WD 45. Clean the inside of the camshaft (that is the main oil gallery) thoroughly. Be sure to replace the cam bearings and verify clearance is within specs, set all rod and main bearings within specs and make sure the oil pump is within specs.
