I have a '51 B that the front wide axle was in really bad shape as far as a lot of play in it. Got new bushings for the spindles,they went right in. But the new bushing that goes in the front axle for the pivot in the center came and it is stepped inside. One end is about 1 inch in diameter while the other end is just over 7/8 . The pin is no longer available so I'm not sure what it should look like. Mine just had a 7/8 bolt in it someone had put in. I know that is not correct. I know that the pin does weld to the support plate . Question is do I bore out the bushing to 1 inch all the way through or do I machine a pin to fit the bushing?

Bored out the bushing to 1 inch. Bored center of bolt ,then cross bored it and added grease zerk to it. Bored out mount plate and then will weld bolt to it so the pivot is in bushing and bolt doesn't just turn in plate. Should be better than original I hope. Thanks for your tips !

The front plate came from the factory with a square head 7/8" bolt without threads. I have replaced the pins with a grade 8 7/8" bolt that I cut to length and drilled a hole for the cotter pin. For the axle I used a 7/8" ID motor bushing that I purchased at an ACE hardware store. and drill out the axle so the bushing is a press fit. Like D 13 said you could go to one inch also.

All of my originals had no bushing when I got them. Pins were 7/8". The rear wishbone pivot was bushed. I currently am running one with 7/8" and one with 1" bolt in place of the original pins. Both work fine although the nut is a tight fit on the 1".

What's the OD on the bushing? If there is meat, a lot easier to drill out the bushing if the axle and support are at 1". Unless you have a lathe and like to make custom bolts and rethread them. I

D 13 Plenty of meat there. and when I look at the way the hole in the mounting plate is oblonged out I am agreeing it would be easier to just mkae it all 1 inch. I have new bushing for the wishbone. The bolt on the wishbone needs replacing to. So some welding involved. This whole thing is not a great engineering feat for Allis. Not to strong

Does just fine until someone overloads it. Remember the rear housings are the load points, the front just needs to stay on the ground.

The worst front I have came off a tractor with a front blade, pivoting off a bracket at the bellhousing pads, with a hydraulic ram attached under the bellhousing and running forward. Added close to 500lb to the front axle weight, ate pivot bolt and spindles and wheel bearings.

I've seen people put loaders on their B. I's be worried about the front plate studs and the front pivot. Unless you use low pressure hydraulics sooner or later you'll pick up something too big and bust up your machine.

Thanks for the info Dick, I had thought they were welded in and my bolts were replacements. Now I know that the bolts are correct, just people grind the bosses off the plates to get regular bolts to sit down. Guess I'll stop worrying about my bolts.
