My A.C. 7000 with a 2 speed pto is leaking oil out from under the shaft. Does anyone know how I go about fixing it? Thanks for any info. Bill

Yep, I been there and done mine. 1) You have to take off the 3pt/pto housing which means you have to undo the cylinders (easiest if done where the cylinders are pinned at teh bottom beacuse they pop out if your not careful...don't ask how I know)
2)You will need a hoist or a bobcat or something like that to strap the arms to
3)make sure you have drained the rear end. 4)unbold all of the bolts and nuts that hold the housing on (2 nuts at the very bottom, 4 bolts along the middle and 3 big bolts at the top)
5)DO NOT PULL OFF IMMDEIATELY! If you do, you can pull out the actual PTO shaft that runs through the rear end. You need to pull it back just a little, then using a large, thin pry bar, push back on the coupler inside there that connects to the shaft on the housing) 6)slowly pull the housing off while someone keeps that shaft from pulling out of the transmission housing (its about 4 ft long) If it does, you will get a lot of oil from the tranny gushing into the rearend... dont ask how I know this either.. lol)
7)Now it is time to work inside the housing. You will have to take the idler gear loose (you leave it in the housing, I think if I remember correctly, it is just a snap ring and a pin or maybe a bolt?)

8)Undo the first snap ring on the houside of the 1000rpm shaft in the housing (I think it is a snap ring to hold a bearing). This shaft should now knock out with a few taps, just be gentle with it (Check for any other snap rings, I may have forgotten one or 2 so far).

9)I should have asked this first, but if the leak is only from the inner shaft, then you don't need to go any further unless you want to. If it is not, then you need to keep going. I had the seal number written down somewhere, but can't remember them now. Look on the seals and find the brand and part number and call the local autozone or something or go to AGCO, either will work for getting a new seal.

10)If the 540 flange is leaking, there is one more snapring I think that holds it in. They you will undo the 4 bolts that are on the houside of the flange that hold the little PTO housing on and that whole assembly should knock out now I think.

11)There is a really tricky snapring that has to be loosened out of its groove, but cannot be taken off. You will have to pop it out of the groove them press teh shaft out the housing. After that, the 540 seal is right there.

The I&T manual gives a good parts breakdown. I am thinking about buying an allis service manual for a 7000, so if it is not leaking too bad and you can wait about 2 or 3 weeks, I will try to get you a copy. My e-mails open. I have done this once on my 7000 black belly, and may have to do it again (I think the seal is leaking again, but not sure yet). Its not as bad as it looks. If I was there, we had the parts and a press and a good hoist or bobcat/forklift, we could easily have it done in 4 hours or so if everything goes smoothly. E-mail me with any questions. I will be glad to help.
