ok here goes Is there any way to bypass the charging switch on my 48 B. I just can't afford one rite now. maybe a jumper wire or something?

I put a new wiring harness on to avoid shorts but still keeps blowing the fuse. when i move the switch in or out. since i dont run it for extended periods of time for it to be on full charge would be fine. I need a good charged battery to get it started. just put a new one in this summer and with starting and not charging its already down. yes I have the big thick bat cable wire to cut down on the draw. so i was trying to see if there is away to bypass this swith for a while? yes It starts fine with the crank but that gets old after awhile or when I stall it in the middle of something.

Bob gave you great info... I ran a IH cub like this for 2 years... ( manual charge setting with resistors ) till I got around to fixing it correctly. I think your B genny is similar to my G genny.. even at full charge.. it's only just barely kicking out low double digits.. etc..

sounds like you have the switch wired wrong. i think the fuse is only for the lights. Bob

the A terminal of the generator must go to the cutout box (mounted on the genrator) and the other side of the cutout goes to the battery. To make it charge the "F" terminal on the generator needs to be grounded. Take the wire off the F at the generator ( it goes to the light switch). I have a short jumper wire with two aligator clips on it. I connect the "F" to a bare spot on the frame or hood to ground the F terminal. Do this for 15 minutes and then take it off. run the tractor for several hours o.k. next week, do the same thing. you will get aoubt 10 amp charge during the "wire grounded" run time. charging for 15 minutes every 4-5 hours run time will work good. the resistor bob toaks about will give a constant 2-3 amp trickle charage and you dont have to turn it off or disconnect the F wire. either will work.

Get a 3-Ohm 20-Watt ceramic resistor from an electronics parts supplier, and connect it between the generator's "F" terminal and ground.

That will give you the "low" charge rate.

If you need the "HIGH" charge rate part of the time, simply connect a SPST switch ACROSS the resistor. For "HIGH" charge, turn the switch "ON", which will bypass the field resistor, and give full generator output.

Don't know about the Radio Shack thing. If a 3. Ohm 20 Watt resistor is not available, 2.7, 3.1, 3.3 Ohms, or anything in that neighborhood will work.

The resistor and SPST switch (if used) would be the only things connected to the "F" terminal.

If the wire from the "F" terminal to the light switch is still good, you can mount the resistor back there.
