I recently bought a 1949 G model. I knew very little about the tractor when I bought it, but when I got it home, discovered it had an N-56 engine in it, rather than the N-62 it's supposed to have.
My question, does anyone else have a N-56? The unique thing is that it is Magneto run. I don't have a clue how to time the Mag, and I need this info. Can anyone help?

The bottom line is, as #1 comes up to TDC on the compression stroke, the mag's impulse should snap AT, or SLIGHTLY after TDC.

If earlier, the engine will "kick back", damaging the starter, whether it be electric or you at the end of a crank.

Once you get the mag to snap at #1 TDC, note which high-tension terminal the rotor has JUST PASSED, and connect that terminal to the #1 spark plug. Then, arrange the other 3, in firing order, around the cap, in the direction the rotor turns.
