A large zip lock or sandwich bag works quite well also with and elastic band around it to help keep moisture out during the winter months. Mark your wires before removing from the spark plugs and you can store the wires also in the bag right on the machine.

well thats a new one on me...first time i ever heard anybody mention shorting a mag out for storage...cant imagine what good it would do other than keeping the contacts in the switch from corroding maybe.
only prep i've ever done to any mag fired stuff i've had is stick one of those ''dry packs'' [little square packages that came in camera's and film] in umder cap...kept points and cap clean
