looking at an 8030. i was wondering if they are a good tractor we had a 7060 that we ran till it was way passed retirement age. can anyone tell me anything about this model. the only thigs we didn"t like on the 7060 were the cable hydrolics seemed like it was all the way up or all the way down, no in between. that wasn"t really a problem though biggest thing we didn"t like was the transmission in the way it shifted very jerky especially when backing up to an implement. was this remedied on the 8000 series tractors and if they changed a bunch of the drive train is it heavy enough. we were very pleased with how rugged the 7060 was and we pulled the tail off of it and never had any drive train problems just hated hooking the old girl up was kind of nerve racking.
thanks Levi

The powertrain is pretty much the same in the 8030, just a little lighter. The 7060 has pretty much the same drive train as the 8050. So about the backing up, the clutch will be the same way. The thing to remember is that it is a wet clutch. This means that when you let the clutch out to where it starts to grab, it will not ride the clutch, but still let fluid into the wet clutch pack and eventually lock it up (grabbing pretty violently for backing up). The best way to back up with one of these types of clutches that I have found is to let it out just to where it barely grabs and then push it in a little and back out just a little. This will help maintain a steady pressure on the clutch pack for backing up and riding the clutch a little (at least it does on my allis with a wet clutch and an inching pedal). Good luck and I hope this helps some. I haven't heard anything bad about the 8030s. They have a turboed 426 at the most detuned state of any of the allis tractors since the 210 and D21 II. Close to the same rating as the 7030, which lasted very well.

the 8030 is very similar the rear end is alittle lighter than a 7060 the engine is not intercooled the cab is a lot better. we sold a fair amount of them at the dealer where i worked. i dont think the engines were as good a lot of crank balencers aand a couple broken cranks the last one i worked on had 9000hrs on and was mostly origional but had good maintance. i also had one out of warantee and a rod bolt let go so we put a cummins in and the owner loves it.

Hi 856puller
I have an 8030 with a dead engine and am considering repowering with cummins. When you repowered did you use 5.9 174HP cummins? Did you use a Hunley kit?
Any info is appreciated. Thanks
