I have a Allis Chalmers "D" motor grader and I would like to find out how old it is. It has a 4-clyinder gas engine. It has a dozer blade in front, 12 ft. grading blade along w/ rippers behind the grading blade. I use this grader to blade the roads in my rv park. Everything works on it. I also would like to know the value of it. Quite a few persons have been trying to buy it from me. Any help any of you guys can give me? I have had this grader for 16 yrs. Thanks Joe

There should be a serial number plate near the front of the channel frame just ahead of the rear tires. My D grader has a serial number 5554 and it is a 1960 model. A smaller number would be older and a larger number would be newer. Mine has the pipe frame, newer models have a welded square frame. If you find the serial number there are people on this site and other Allis sites that can give you an exact year. You may have the newer style frame as my parts book does't show any optional front blade or any way of mounting one. I also think the 5-8 thousand dollar range is in line depending on condition. It appears as if your machine is fitted out with most of the options that were available which makes it more valuable.

Joe, It would be hard to place a definite value on it but I would say somewhere between 3 and 5 thousand as you described it. If you no longer need it you might want to consider selling it, but if you still need for your roads,you"ll never replace it for what you might sell it for. HTH Bob Da. (La)
