Recently purchased a 43 WC with spoked F&H wheels. Anyone ever seen spokes on a sytled WC? They are the newer sizes 13.6-28 and 5.50-16. I am thinking that they may be original odd balls.

My 43'WC sounds basically the same as Dans. Mine is equipped with flat spoke wheels at the rear, and round spoke wheels at the front. From what I understand, this WC was on steel originally and was converted over to rubber sometime down the road in it's life. The wheels are better known as "cut-off's". I think the spoked wheels add a little character to the tractor... Steve@B&B

I"ve seen one WC with 28 in. round spoke F&H wheels. The owner said they came off of a Farmall.

I agree with the other comments that it most likely came with steel and was later converted to rubber. I have a 42 WC that I bought as a parts tractor and it had cut offs (F&H Rear Flat spoke) on the rear and round spokes on the front. In the process of putting it back to a working tractor I reversed and welded a 6 bolt machiened hub into the 16.9x26 E gleaner wheels and tires. I also had to replace one of the front rims I recut off one of the rims, and welded a rim from an old implemnet wheel on the spoked front hub. The E gleaner also contributed its manifold and carb... this tractor is cobbeled together, but looks ok. Nothing like a little paint to make a bunch of old parts cobbeled together look ok. I guess my point is that you have a machiene that is over sixty years old and a lot of things can happen over that amount of time. The WC isn't a valuable tractor and no matter how much money you put into it, or how good you make it look, it will never be worth a lot of $$$. Scrounge around use used parts whenever you can, paint it, enjoy it, just don't expect to make a lot of money selling it.

I really like your wheels on the back. Can you tell me more about what you made the 6 bolt machined hubs out of and how you made them?

also if you can, send me a larger picture of your tractor and the wheels in back..send to [email protected]

Thanks,
Mike

Hi Drawbar, I have a 43 WC parts tractor that had no starter. generator, lights, or ring gear on the flywheel. It has flat spoke cutoff rear wheels and round spoke cutoff front wheels. 28 inch rear rubber and 16 inch front rubber. I am sure this tractor was originaly on steel front and rear due to the war All accessories deleted and on steel due to the shortages of rubber and electrical equipment. It had the gas engine with the under hood muffler and small hole for the exhaust pipe. It does still have the cast rear housing instead of the steel housing. Someone was no doubt glad to get any new tractor even if it was handcrank start as it was when I got it with the engine stuck due to water down the exhaust. If this tractor could talk it could tell us a real story but we just have to guess. The rear wheels have F&H cast into the hub area with flat spokes.HTH dan wc ne wyo

My guess would be that the originals may have rusted and they found and put these on in replacement. For the fronts, it's beyond me why it would have spokes. I purchased a 34 with 1 spoke and 1 pressed rear and pressed fronts. There was a styled at an auction with rear steel so the originals must have been shot or switched with the 34 that I got at the same auction.

If you're looking to go all original, find some pressed otherwise have fun with what you have.

My '39 RC has 28 inch spoke wheels- one round, the other flat spoke. Should have cast dish, similar to, but not the same as WC dish. Lots of things get changed over the years.

You could order a tractor on steel during WW II, and maybe have a better chance of getting one that way. Rubber was scarce. The replacement wheels might have been the cheapest/easiest way to put rubber tires on the tractor.

I should clarify they are spoked wheels with pnuematic tires on them. Everything about the sizez are the same as they would be but instead of disc wheels they are spoked.

I have a set of F&H flat spoke "cut-off" rims....they have the same hub and spoke type as the set of rear steel I have for my WC.
