probably came with 30 wt from the factory 50 years ago. the new multi viscosity oils are very popular with some guys. they are o.k. for the old motors, just didint have that choice 50 years ago. i run 10w30 in all my Allis tractors. good pressure, good starting when cold. quite a few guys will go with 15w40 diesel type oils. thats o.k. also.

I tell you how to find the info for your self but will not do it for you. Look on the left of this page under research&info, then serail numbers, allis, Wd and then look where you number would fit in and thats your year. I would also say run a 30W oil in it in the winter and a 40W or 50W in the summer depending on where your at. I don't run multi weight oils in any of my tractors because of how old they are

Don't feel bad I was there about 30-40 years ago my self but I have learned a lot since then. Feel free to ask questions I work on all colors of tractor and have a WD I built from 2 or 3 other WDs. Or look at my web site and you will see a few of my toys

Should I buy a service manual or owners manual for my WD?

Iwould buy both. One will leave out things that the other will cover and that way you have to places to look and compare what they say
