Allis D15 questions

I am considering an AC D15 (probably) tractor. I don't know the model for sure, but it looks like a D15. It has a 3 pt hitch and is gas.

The owner says that it just stopped running several years ago, and there it sits. The tin is not terrible, but has surface rust all over it. I didn't see any rust through- but the whole tractor is pretty evenly rusted. It will go cheap- like a few hundred.

QUESTION- did this series of tractors have live PTO's? If it doesn't, then I probably won't bother with it. None of my tractors have live PTO and I really want it for bush hogging and other chores. Also- are there any chronic problem this series had? Any other cool features they had- like a diff lock maybe?

I plan to look at the oil, and to attempt to turn it over by turning the fan and tensioning the belt. What else can I check on a non running tractor?

It has live pto when the power director (hand clutch) is used. no diff lock available. The later tear gas D-15's had a larger engine. The transmissions tend to jump out of gear if they have been abused.

Note of caution....
While the PTO is "live" via the hand clutch neutral position as Joe said, it's not advisable (and near impossible) to shift transmission while PTO is running an implement, especially fwd/reverse.
Hence the "abuse" factor Joe alluded to.

If your need is to only to stop forward motion while allowing implement to continue to run, then it will work fine. For instance, a bailer, feedwagon or pull-type combine.

Thanks for the info, but I'm still confused. Does this have a foot clutch or a hand clutch. It sounds like it has both (??)

Also- is this clutch PTO configuration the same on all/most of the SD series? I don't know exactly what the model is- but it looks like a D15. It may be a D12, D17, etc. (how can I tell, by the way?)

I'll probably go look at it again this coming weekend.

If it's a D series Allis Chalmers, then yes it has both a hand clutch and a foot clutch.
The foot clutch disconnects everything from the engine (except for the D17SerIV which has a quill shaft; the hollow outer shaft runs the live hydraulic pump)
The hand clutch (which runs in oil) is a Direct/Neutral/UnderDrive system that Allis called "Power Director"
You can find the model number on the tractor, but it can vary in location. Check this page below for locations of S/N and series designators.
If you can post a picture someone here can help identify.
