starter for model M crawler

I pulled the starter off of my M crawler to clean it.Before it would only turn with 2 12 volt batteries and then very slowly.Cleaned it and now it will not turn with a 12 battery.Now for my question,what other starters will innerchange???Also,I am assuming that the crawler is a 6 volt system since it is a 1935 model,so the starter is probably a 6 volt system,am I right in assuming this????

Dale the later Allis model U and UC tractors (not the ones with Continental engines) used the same engine, so if you can find a starter off one of them they should work.

Most starter rebuilders have a source that can rewind you armature if need.

There may be something very simple wrong with the starter.

Is there still a "mom and pop" auto electrical shop in your area... there's a good chance a place like that could fix you up for a lot less than buying another starter.

yes Bob there is a fellow here that rebuilds starters and I'll probably go to him this week.I am just looking at my possiblities as to how hard this starter will be to replace if I have to.Since it is a 1935 model,I 'm not sure if the fellow can repair it.Most people who rebuid these things are more custom to modern parts and do not have old parts,such as a armature the length that this starter is.So,I am just trying to cover any problems.

Your MC is Not a 1935 They were made from 1949 to 1952 and finding a starter is no big deal i have many email me for my link in case you have have problems.

CH I don't think I'd want to buy from someone who doesn't know what they are talking about....the AC model M crawlers were made from 1932 to 1942.
