Does anyone know how the magneto control rod (located next to the choke control rod) was connected to the magneto to allow you to shut off the engine from the seat?

It was a two piece rod. The first section went from the area near the choke to a bellcrank located near the right headlight mount. the second piece went from the bellcrank to the back side of the magneto to a spring steel clip that would short out the magneto when pulled. The rod would return to the original position when released so the tractor would be ready to start the next time.

Thanks for the response, but your response brings up another question. My magneto has a spring clip on the front side of the magneto, but none on the back. Should there be one on both sides?

The proper mag for the WCs that had the mag cutout rod next to the choke only had the spring shorting mechanism on the back side. The ones with the mag shorting spring on the outside were for hand crank tractors with no starter. I have one of the outside ones on my 39 B and one of the inside ones on my 46 WC. If you want you can use a toggle switch wired to the mag to short it out. It works good but isn't original.
