Allis B serial # experts!!

OK you Allis serial # experts, I ran into something today I am not really sure on. Looked at a Allis B, electric start, hydraulics, the wishbone front axel serial No. does not make any since, here is the # 8778777. Could the first 8 be a "B" instead of an 8? Even if 8 is a B, still looks like too large of a number. :>(

Owner said he was told it was a 1943, boy I'm at a lose on this one.....Thanks

Keith, I had a question about a B serial number on here the other day. After going back and looking at the tractor I found the number to be B88486. I bet the first digit is a B. The one I looked at is going up for auction this weekend. I believe the guy that had it, he's passed away some time ago, is the original owner. It's got a set of cultivators with it and maybe a plow. The plow looked to be AC orange anyway. I'll let you know what it goes for if I find out. Can't make the sale. PUTTER

While you are at it, get the motor s/n off flange at right rear and any casting numbers such as motor. But I'm with the other guys - its a B11 instead of 877 - other possibility is you are picking up an extra digit at one end that is a scratch not a number or someone double stamped or added a digit. Are first and last digit in same character set?

Ya, the numbers are the same charactor set, this is what has thrown me a loop. The only thing I can think of is what I mentioned earlier, that all the numbers that look like a 7 are actually 1's. I will try to get some pic's today of tractor and serial #. And all numbers seem to be stamped into cast. Keith

Your conclusions are accurate. Where did you find this number? The seraial number for a B is on the shift tower. The last number made was about 127500.

Denny, right where is suppose to be, on machined surface on right front top corner of transmission, just in front and to the right of shift tower.

Way too many numbers!!!!! I'll recheck tomorrow, I'll take a piece of chalk to see If I can't accent the numbers better. The only thing I can think of is number I think is a 7 could be a 1. This would put it in line with serials numbers.

Whatcha think?

Keith I'm with Tex on this. I tried to run the number you gave and even look a little more and they all seem way wrong to be a 43. How about a picture????? ????? Thats one is sort of like the 1950 WD I saw at the show. I looked it over and yep its a WD from the bell houseing back but it has a WD45 engine sitting in it so what is it. Or the B that had a spring under the seat. The guy with the B said it was factory but I said no its after market

Two of those sevens will need to be ones - which is quite possible. Of course that wouldn't be anywhere near a 1943 which it clearly isn't because of the number of digits. It would seem to be a 1951 or 1952.
