Well I finally found the serial no. on my supposed WD45 BUT I looked here and the number doesn't jive, the no. is 130639 and there is a D before the 1 and I don't see the D in the list of serial numbers either, but the number tells me that it's a WC.It has all the WD45 decals so I took it for granted that it was a 45 when I bought it.So can you guys tell me what all to look for so I can know for sure wether I have a WC or a WD45?Been here before and got good advice so I'm trying again.
Thanks Dave

Hi Dave,

Since you said you saw a D, perhaps there is a faint W in front of that D? If so, and with that number, that would put it as a 1952 WD. 1953's started with serial number 131273.

Also, look on the right side of the engine. If there is a large square plate, then it's a WD engine. If there is no plate, then it's most likely a WD-45 engine.

Bob has it right but, just to let you know the WD and WD45 engine will fit in either of the tractors. So you may still have a WD but it might have a WD45 engine in it. Its hard to tell what all has been done to a tractor in the past 50 or so years. You may have a mutt on you hands. I know I have at time taken 2 or 3 tractors and made one good tractor out of it. Shoot when I got my WC Speed patrol it had a WD45 engine in it, but it was one sick puppy of and engine. I have since put in a WC/WD engine. The WD/WC engines are the same by the way

if there is a d before the 1, there should also be a w. all wd and wd45 serial # start with wd. however wd45 #s begin at wd160385 in 53. wd serial # for 53 ends with 131242. so your tractor must be a wd. check the side of the engine below the sparkplugs a look for a large bolt on plate. also look at the serial # of the engine ( near the air cleaner) does it start with wd or with 45. you probably have a curved shifter wd. many people think that if it has a curved shifter it is a wd45, not true.Bob

Bob, the first WD-45 was 146607 in 1953. The FIRST WD in 1953 was 131273 and the last 1953 WD would have been 146606.
