Hello, I am looking at purchasing an Allis Chalmers 185 at auction on Saturday. It is a diesel with new rubber on the rear, good paint, straight sheet metal, no leaks, 3pt, all electrical items work, canopy, and only 2400 original one owner hours. This is a local tractor, that I know has been shedded its entire life. Could you please help me with the value of this tractor. I have seen them advertised from $4000 to $8500. It also has a freshly rebuilt injection pump. I am an Oliver man, however, this tractor has caught my eye. Could you also help me with any advantages or disadvantages of this tractor. Thanks Shaun Murray

They're a pretty good tractor from what I can tell, My grandpa has two of them. They tend to break tie-rod ends on the front end where it attaches to the cylinder. Easy fix, but new ones handy. I would expect from your post that that one would bring $8,000. Good luck.

Shaun - a dealer would most liklely ask 10K for that tractor. $8500 is a reasonable price and anything less is a bargain. The D2800 301 ci diesel was a good engine if not turned up or worked beyond it"s intended use for the size tractor. A couple of points: Ask how the tractor was used. If was used as a loader tractor it saw much harder service, esp. on the transmission so that would be a minus. You need to drive the tractor in all gears, esp. 2nd & 3rd and make sure it doesn"t pop out going downhill. Does it have hydraulic PTO? Manual PTO on these is a weak point. Bonus points if has two remotes and more bonus points if the canopy is the factory ROPS canopy. Also check to see if it has good brakes on both wheels. Good luck! Mike
