I have a new Allis B here, 1946 model. It runs decent but I can't seem to coax any heat out of the engine. It runs at about 130 degrees only and should be probably 40-50 degrees hotter I would think. It has the thermostat housing on the engine but whether there is one in there or not I don't know. It's either missing or maybe stuck open. And the temperature gauge I think is in a strange place, on the radiator side of the thermostat (or thermostat housing) for some reason, is that normal? Someone has removed the factory shutters. A guy I know has two of them and he says they are the darndest engines to get warm. Any comments from any of you that have experience with the Allis B's?

I have the same problem with my WC, it stays under 125 all the time, I grind feed with a big hammermill, that should be run with a 100 hp tractor but the WC runs it fine and it warms up to 135 and thats it. It confuses me.

MY 39 RUNS @ ABOUT 140-170, DEPENDING UPON LOAD.

Yep, be very careful if you change it. I did mine while doing a head gasket and had to drill out and re-tap all the holes. Nice now that it's done, but, a big pain to do. If you order a thermostat in advance, get the spring too. My thermostat was OK, but, the spring that holds it in place had broke letting water flow all the time.

I have the opposit problem with my C. Same engine as your B. Be careful if you try to put in a new thermostat. The bolts like to brake off right at the head and can be very hard to get out if they do. My C has the shutters but I always leave them wide open because it likes to run a little on the warm side

my 1950 B runs about 170 degrees all the time. you need to install a new thermostat.
