I just bought a 1947 AC C. It has a distributor instead of a magneto. Could that be original or was it modified? It is still has a 6 volt electrical system.

The distributor on the left is an aftermarket.
The distributor in the center is for the D-10 thru D-15.
The distributor on the right is from a CA and the same that would be on the newer B"s.

Dick,

Speaking of distributors... Have you ever seen the distributor that looks like a magneto that was apparently used on some Bs and Cs by AC? Such a distributor is shown in the B/C parts book for certain BE and CE engines. In fact, it's indicated to be made by FM as model FM-T4B. Externally, it looks like the standard FMJ magneto but is for battery ignition - at least per the parts book.

Rod, Was just searching archives for link to your timing info and ran across this. Yes, I've seen a few of the FM T battery distributors yet don't have any complete units right now but I do have FM parts lists and several NOS parts for them. The internal coil, large cover cap and many other parts were special just for those not interchangeable for mags.

I have bought three that had outside coils that ran thru the magneto but thought they were home made. I have never opened them up to look. They are out in the shop in a box that I have no idea where to look. When I die and they have the auction to make the place salable some one will find them. I am sure these would not have been what you are referring too or I would have wondered why they looked as they did and opened them up.

It would not have been original. It would have had a mag. If I remember right it was 1953 when battery ignition was made standard and that would have been when they were making the ca

It would probly be an aftermarket distributor. The same aftermarket distributor would fit on the Farmall and others. You could also have one off one of the later B"s but the casting would look like the CA"s.

Thanks everyone for your info. I have an extra magneto for my unstyled WC (FMJ). Is that the correct original magneto for the AC C?

I believe it would be. I know the mags for the WC, WD, B and C all bolt up the same way and all of the ones I have seen look the same. I have 2 of them in my shop, but I prefer disturbutors over mags but thats just me
