I need suggestions on replacing/repairing the steering column shaft bearings/bushings. The zerks are long gone and it's metal to metal inside

I have fixed several WD - but the WC is similar. Some of the supports have replaceable bushings - but the holes are usually too worn out. My AGCO dealer didn't have the factory bushings, but did have 1"od 7/8"id x 1.5" bronze. First welded up the worn shaft surfaces and ground/filed to size. Then I drilled / filed the bushing holes oversize to accomodate the bronze. I used the shaft to hold everything in line JB welded in the bushings. You may want to weld up the bottom end where the universal fits too. These are loose and worn on half of the tractors I have seen. Others have used JB Weld to build up the worn holes.

Inexpensive, but time consuming using hand tools. Fun to drive a WD / WC with tight steering - most are very sloppy after 50+ years.

Kevin, Thanks for the heads-up. What you described is exactly what I had in mind if parts were not around.Went to a show over weekend and looked at alot of sloppy one's but found a '46 done exactly as you described. As is, third gear will make you grey.
