I have a crackshaft from an old AC, but I don't what model it fits. Maybe someone can help me identify it from the characters stamped on it. It has the following: U 3986 followed by and L with a circle around it, followed by a 10. I suspect it may be from a WC, WD, or maybe a WU or U. I know it is from a quite old engine since the flywheel had no starter provisions (no starter gear on fly wheel). I also know the engine had a 4" bore base on the pistons from it. Thanks for any help.

The UM301 engine in a U has a 4.5" bore and the W201 engine in a WC has a 4" bore. So let's shoot for a WC/WF crankshaft. The stroke should be 4" - if you lay the shaft flat on a bench, project a line from the center of the #1 & #4 rod journal and another line from the center of the #2 & #3 journals, it should measure 4" line to line. Also measure the journal diameters: rods - 2.374" to 2.375"; front main - 2.435" to 2.4365", center and rear main - 2.477" to 2.478". The crankshaft can be ground to .040" undersize. The W226 engine in a WD45 has the same journal measurements but a 4.5" stroke, and they all had starter gears on the flywheel.

Jerry,
Thanks for the help. The specs for the WC crank you described fit mine exactly.
