little confused on this issue. if tractor not running and i pull the dip stick it doesnt register, but after running for 3 minutes it does, but i cant really tell how much it measures. any advice? smorse harrisonville mo

Check the oil level after tractor has been sitting or before use. When the tractor is in use, the oil is thrown around inside the compartment. When you turn it off, oil is dripping everywhere. You can't get a reading because of the dripping. It sounds like your director is seriously low on oil if you can't see it on the stick before you run it. Use non-detergent oil. Allis recommended 20W non detergent. If you can't find it, 30W ND would probably be ok for adding. Some may suggest a good grade of hydraulic fluid as it is non detergent and usually about 20W.
